Advent Calendar Day 5

Hello and welcome to Day 5 of our advent calendar, hosted by Jo of Serendipitous Stitching.

Let's open the door shall we?

This is an ornament I stitched a couple of year ago, which I don't think I've shared before. It was my first ever Christmas ornament and it has graced our tree ever since!

Snow Birds by Country Cottage Needleworks

Jo always sets us a question and this year's is to share our treasured Christmas decorations. My parents never really decorated much for Christmas - a small artificial tree with multicoloured decorations which was typical of many UK homes in the 1970s. The fashion now is for several trees, different themes and decoration throughout the home.

We only have room for one tree however, this one...

Some handmade and some shop-bought. Here's a closeup of three of my favourites.

Made by DS1 (snowman), DS2 (star) and a joint effort for the star on top of the tree!

I hope you all have a peaceful and happy Christmas.

Justine

  5. I love your snowbird..totally cute. Very well finished. Your post brought back amazing memories. We had one tree in the 70s and a gazillion shiny paper ornies hanging from the ceiling which would have been a death trap if there was a fire. And we only ever decorated one tree

  9. Thanks for taking part in th Advent Calendar Blog Hop this year. Love the snowbirds, they always look like seagulls to me because one appears to have really long legs!
We still have one tree, a real one now after many years of fake. We do have a twig tree in the kitchen which the Small Boy made last year at school and I couldn't bear to take do so just added some Easter ornies!

  20. Your tree looks wonderful Justine :-)
We only ever had one tree when i was growing up too, I think that was probably the norm for most people wasn't it, now people seem to go all out with themes and colour schemes. I have two trees, one with all my ornaments and more traditional decorations and another snowy one with just lights on.

  25. I have Snow Birds in my pile to be done... maybe this year even! Very unique finish Sis! Since my kids are grown, I have given them back 'their' ornaments, so seeing the ones you highlighted reminded me and made me smile! My must-have ornament is one my mother made me... the Cupie-doll angel one, always front and center. Right now I am stitching a Britty Kitty Christmas one for my husband. Using lots of purple, so it can actually go on the tree! Big Hugs!
