Smalls SAL March 2016

The Smalls SAL is hosted by Stitching Lotus and is a fun and easy no-commitment SAL.  I joined for the first time this year and my plan is to stitch and (whisper) finish the Lizzie*Kate Twelve Blessings in time for Christmas!

This month I chose to stitch...

Hope by Lizzie*Kate (Twelve Blessings)
Started 14 March 2016, finished 23 March 2016

I think we could all use a little hope in these troubled times!

Faithful April

I finished 2015 with 11 projects which had been started but not finished. Now I know this is a lot less than some, but these are all fairly large stitches with many hours of work left on them.

Many of these projects were started in January 2014 when I joined the Crazy January Challenge and had 15 new starts, and some were started in January 2015 as part of Debbie's Crazy January Challenge, in memory of Deborah Faris Bryant.

My goal for 2016 is to reduce this list from 11 to just 5. I've already had two finishes from the list and made progress on two more but one project in particular isn't growing as quickly as I'd like. So I've decided to do something about it.

Cut Thru Rocket by Bothy Threads - not my own work

April is going to be Cut Thru Rocket month. I'm going to work exclusively on this piece for a whole month. Faithful to one project at a time, which is how I used to stitch before I discovered blogging.

I have a goal in mind which is to finish the top 6 pages but I'm not going to beat myself up about it if I don't make it. I just want to make significant progress on this one.

Here's where I'm up to at present, just 14 months after I started.

Started on 2 January 2015, to be continued....

I'll update my blog if there's anything worth showing, and I hope you'll cheer me on.  This one is to be a present for elder son who will soon be 8 years old, so there's some time pressure to stitch it before he is too old to enjoy it!

If anyone else feels like joining me in Faithful April, then let me know. The more the merrier!

Easter Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to my blog - hope you're enjoying hopping around the Easter Blog Hop hosted by Jo of Serendipitous Stitching!

This was a little piece I finished up just in time for the blog hop this year - a freebie from Tralala.  Isn't it sweet?

 Easter Bunny by Tralala
Stitched on 28 count Brittney pink evenweave
using DMC threads

I was hoping to have this finished up for Easter but would you believe I don't have any fabric that complements it in my stash?  So an Easter shopping trip is planned!

Here's the letter you are looking for...

And now hop hop hop over to my friend Mini's blog - your link is here!

Hope you all have a lovely Easter however you celebrate.

Gifted Gorgeousness March 2016

Gifted Gorgeousness is hosted by Jo and is a chance for us to show off charts, threads, fabric etc that we have been gifted being put to good use, or items we are stitching as gifts, or anything else that has a gifty connection!

I have two gifted finishes to share with you today, and some lovely gifts that I received in the post last week!

Last night, just in time for this post, I finished this lovely stitch which was gifted to me by Sally.  I really enjoyed stitching this, the deep pink (Cherry Tomato by Crescent Colors) is one of my favourite over-dyed threads.

Comfort by Little House Needleworks
Stitched on Cloud Brown 28 count evenweave by Sew It All
using recommended Crescent Colors threads
Started 7 March 2016, finished 14 March 2016

In the spirit of Gifted Gorgeousness I am going to pass this chart on.  If you would like to be entered, please leave a comment below saying you would like to stitch it, and I will draw a winner this coming Sunday 20 March.

I also stitched this little design for a charity hoping to make a wall-hanging to share with Syrian stitchers.  You can read all about it here.  The design is by Mr X Stitch and didn't take more than a couple of hours.

Syrian Square by Mr X Stitch
Stitched on 14 count antique white aida
with Fiberlicious Rittles variegated silk
Started 1 March 2016, finished 3 March 2016

Now to show you the gifts I have received!  Last year Maggee and I discovered that we share a birthday, and decided to have a birthday exchange.  Maggee's parcel for me arrived last week and I have been truly spoiled!

Firstly this gorgeous biscornu, the central button is a vintage one from Maggee's mum's stash...

Next there was this beautiful Winter ornament, as our birthdays are in winter...

And then there was a lovely thread catcher - I have tried to make these before myself without much success!  This is a lovely bright one, perfect for Spring!

And finally this gorgeous chart which may just feature in a GG post in the not too distant future as I can't wait to stitch it!

Maggee also included the threads you can see in the photo.  I can't decide what combination to do, but pink and chocolate has to be one of my favourite combinations ever.

Thanks again Maggee, you really spoiled me and I'm looking forward to another exchange next year!

Finish and a WIP update

I have a little finish to share with you today.  This was a gift from Mii Stitch last year.  We decided to do a private Spring exchange, and both chose the same chart to give to the other!  I really truly enjoyed every single stitch of this one, and am very pleased with my fabric choice too!

Lover of Spring Light by Soda Stitch
Stitched on 16 count Provence aida by Sew it All
using DMC threads
Started 7 February 2016, finished 27 February 2016

A couple of close ups, the flowers were my favourites...

This year my stitching goal is to reduce my WIP list from 11 to 5.  I got off to a good start as I finished two in January (see my Finishes 2016 tab for pictures) but now comes the real challenge as the four I have in my sights are nowhere near finished.

Last week I forced myself to work on Cut Thru Rocket by Bothy Threads.  I have a love/hate relationship with this piece.  I love the fun design, the bright colours and sparkly threads.  What I hate is the fabric, a giant piece of 16 count navy blue aida which was really stiff.  However, it's for elder son's room, I promised it to him, and it's non-negotiable has to be finished this year.

Last week I went from here...

which is pretty much where I'd left it after starting on 2 January last year as part of Debbie's Crazy January Challenge, to here...

It's looking much better, and the more I stitch on it, the more I'm enjoying it!  The fabric is getting a little softer with handling (I am stitching this one in hand) and I am getting quicker at finding the holes in the dark aida.  A white tea towel across my lap is the secret!

I'm happy to be able to update my WIP page with my progress on this one and am still hoping this will be finished at the end of 2016.

See you soon for a Gifted Gorgeousness update!
